? is because my local scan of this book has poor quality (I rushed; blame me!) so I left the translation unknown. Chuterix (talk) 17:01, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

How is the camphor tree derived from medicine? Chuterix (talk) 17:13, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Presumably, this is from root kusu related to mystical powers (see obsolete adjective 奇し (kusushi); this kusu is also the root of modern (kusuri)) + (no) + (ki), then the full term was shortened in contexts where the no ki clarification was not needed. Consider also terms like 椎の木 (shī no ki) and (shī), or (enoki) and (e), 楓の樹 (kaede no ki) and (kaede), etc. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 19:31, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
