Is Zhuang daxboh (“father”) related? (@Wyang) —suzukaze (t・c) 06:10, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
- Very interesting question... Probably unlikely, for four reasons:
- Zhuang daxboh is a compound word, per Baidu Baike and this Thai article. Specifically, the second link says:
- Min comparison data shows '丈夫' is the main word for 'man' in Min.
- Evidence that '丈夫' in Min Nan also means 'male'. This is written as 查埔囡仔 tsa-poo gín-á/ta-poo gín-á in 臺灣閩南語常用詞辭典.
- Geography.
- Further insight: [2]. Btw, the ping didn't work... Wyang (talk) 07:18, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
- Wow, thanks for the comprehensive reply! So it's probably just a strange similarity (and the 丈夫 entry might need expansion). —suzukaze (t・c) 05:40, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
