@Dokurrat, Tooironic, Wyang: I kinda fail to see how 数字 means "to digitalize" in the examples. Does 数字电视/数字控制装置 mean "to digitalize TV / to digitalize control settings" or "digital TV / digital control settings"? — justin(r)leung _{{ (t...) | c=› }} 00:35, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

@Justinrleung: 现代汉语规范词典 has an entry 数字电视. It is defined as "用数字化技术发射、传输和接收文字、声音、图像的电视系统", which seems to be a noun (rather than a verb + object phrase) to me. Dokurrat (talk) 00:52, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Good points. According to this dictionary, 数字 is synonymous with 数字化 here. Now, logically, we know that 化-suffixed words can act as verbs, nouns and attributives. I would say in this example collocations it's closer to an attributive adjective than a noun. ---> Tooironic (talk) 01:06, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

(E/C) 现代汉语规范词典 is fairly rigorous about categorising words according to their original, literal meanings and regarding the other PoS as 詞類活用, so a lot of attributive adjectives are treated as verbs, which makes sense. In this case though, I think it's trying to say 数字电视 is the same as 数字化电视, and thus 数字 is also a verb "to digitise", "to digitalise" -- which, although a bit far-fetched, is not entirely unreasonable. It's up to us how we treat these two current senses. I wouldn't mind merging them into a single attributive adjective sense of "digital; digitalised", and applying the same on 數位, 數碼, etc., since this sense is limited to being used adjectivally, and the verb nature is not apparent.
