RFD-sense of "a defunct magazine on idols, celebrities". A proper noun of a magazine, covered by WT:NSE. We do not routinely include magazine titles, and they seem an extraordinarily useless thing to include. ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 08:39, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
- Delete. There have in fact been several magazines by that name, including a literary magazine (and a revival). --Lambiam 14:28, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
- Bleh. That sense is patently not dictionary material. I just reworked the 明星 entry extensively, and omitted the magazine sense. Please have a look. In particular, I noted that Lambiam had marked the Antares sense for verification; I'm finding that sense in multiple monolingual JA dictionaries, such as can be seen here at Kotobank. This usage appears to be unusual, but I cannot tell from my sources if it's historical and now archaic / obsolete, or just rare. I've marked it as rare for now. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 20:48, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
- I had seen that too. But Japanese may be considered a well-documented language, so I feel we need to see actual uses. Dictionaries have been known to copy from each other, including errors. --Lambiam 21:34, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
- The JA WP mentions the 赤星 spelling in the w:ja:アンタレス#名称 article, which spelling is listed in dictionaries as an alternative for 明星 of the same akahoshi or akaboshi reading. There also appear to be enough googits to suggest cromulence. google books:"明星"+"アンタレス" ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 22:10, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
- All righty, I'm closing the RFD then.

- RFD resolved.

Can we verify the specific sense Antares? While Antares is a bright star (the literal meaning of 明星), I see no evidence this is used in Japanese to designate specifically that star. --Lambiam 10:32, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Removed by @Eirikr in diff. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 21:33, 14 July 2020 (UTC)- Actually, it seems to be moved to あかぼし. Is this verification still needed? — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 21:36, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
- If it helps any, Daijirin and the KDJ both list the "Antares" sense as seen here in Kotobank. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 22:12, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
- Apparently resolved by moving the entry. — surjection ⟨??⟩ 17:50, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
