-shit[edit]

Not suffixes, just second halves of various compounds. For example we have airwave and microwave but not -wave, as these are both compounds. --Mglovesfun (talk) 17:00, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedied. These are no more suffixes than -grater because of cheesegrater. Equinox 18:21, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So why isn't it a suffix?Lucifer 23:00, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's putting two English words together. A suffix is something like -tion or -ly that isn't a word on its own. Equinox 23:10, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
phobia is a word on its own and it is a suffix: -phobia. --Pilcrow 05:16, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense, are any suffixes words on their own though? (And I don't mean -ed and ed) but maybe bard-yard and Yard for example, even if yard isn't a suffix maybe there is a suffix that is a word too?) And does the same go for prefixes?Lucifer 22:03, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
