Related to white supremacy etc. It would be nice to see citations of usage at Citations:1488. DCDuring (talk) 23:38, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

This is easily attestable, but the part of speech is wrong. If anything, this should be categorized as a symbol. Binarystep (talk) 01:07, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's an interjection and symbol. When someone just posts a comment such as "1488", I'd say that's an interjection, as it's similar to something like "Heil". Theknightwho (talk) 01:16, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
The 2 cites show it used as a noun. DCDuring (talk) 05:48, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure what part of speech to consider this (maybe symbol or particle) ... the number / symbol can be used adjective-ish-ly, or as an interjection, or noun-ish-ly, or used as part of e.g. a username, or set as the price of something, etc: on Talk:1488 I put books which mention cases of people pricing something at $14.88, or giving out 1,488 euros, to make the signal. (The variability in how it can be written also mildly complicates things, since it can also be found as 14 88, 14/88, even reversed as 88 14, or the parts 14 and 88 can be found separately.) - -sche (discuss) 06:41, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Won't we know better when we have cites for some particular PoSes? To me it seems we have two noun cites so far. (We have numerous English noun entries that consist solely of numbers or of numbers and punctuation.) There may be other PoSes attestable as well. How folks might use these reportedly, but non-attestably, might belong in usage notes or WP, though usually fiction writers give us attestation in dialogue for supposed use in naturalistic speech. DCDuring (talk) 14:58, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is a symbol representing a slogan. I think we should list this as a symbol, just like Translingual 88. A case can be made for also classifying this as translingual, since it has found traction among Nazis elsewhere too.[1][2][3]  --Lambiam 21:35, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
If the cites only show use as an English noun, how would we know either that it is a symbol (any more than any other string of characters) or that it is Translingual? DCDuring (talk) 21:46, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
You don’t need to keep making the same point. No-one is suggesting we shouldn’t cite it. Theknightwho (talk) 20:09, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
