Talk:5(internet slang)

I'm new to making pages on Wiktionary, so you'll have to excuse the mess. I was surprised there wasn't a page for 5 yet, though. TheK3vin
- Can you give us some citations: actual usages of this word in books or print (rather than Web pages that anybody can create)? Equinox ◑ 02:19, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
- Well, no, but I know it's a fairly well-used word. It has an Urban Dictionary, page, but that's about the only source I can think of. I'm sure that's not credible, but at least it isn't something I just made up. 02:23, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
- We can't use Urban Dictionary, because again that's a Web page and any random user can add a definition there. If not a book, perhaps something from Usenet (the newsgroup system)? We can use that. Otherwise, it's probably a protologism, and it isn't ready to be added to a dictionary yet; we need to see whether it lives or dies over the next few years. Equinox ◑ 02:30, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Bad entry
[edit]I went ahead and deleted this. It's a bad entry title, as even if it does meet WT:CFI, which seems doubtful, it belongs as part of 5, not on a page of its own. — Carolina wren discussió 03:14, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
- It comes from the Thai language, where the number 5 is pronounced hâa. It is normally used in a triplet, as 555 (555) (hâa-hâa-hâa). —Stephen 03:45, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
