Oz character, needs generic usage. Equinox ◑ 18:32, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- I think this should pass. I found quite a few novels with Tin Man in the title, that have nothing to do with Wizard of Oz but which are more likely than not referencing the Baum character. For example:
- How the Tin Man Found His Brain: One Attorney’s Path for Perceptual Development, by Danute Debney Shaw (2020). Admittedly, the Tin Man character in the story book was missing a *heart*, not a brain, but a somewhat off-key reference is still a reference, right?
- Heartless as a Tin Man, by Kendra Moreno (2021). More true to the original Tin Man's character.
- Tin Man: Memoirs of a Sociopath, by Barbara Peterson (2015).
- Heart of the Tin Man: The Collected Writings of Jack Haley, by Jack Haley and Mitchell Cohen (2000).
- That's four direct uses of the phrase just looking at book titles, not even in the text of the books. That should be sufficient to show widespread figurative usage outside the context of the Oz universe.
- Also, I found this first, and it seems perhaps unnecessary now, but I didnt want to waste the effort ... does this Star Trek episode count? That episode was an adaptation of a book called Tin Woodman. It seems also an earlier (1987) Star Trek episode contains the line It seems you woke... your Tin Man. spoken by Picard, indicating maybe the script writers had the idea in 1987 but didnt go all the way with it until three years later. Its possible though that the site i copied it from capitalized Tin Man out of habit, either associating it with the later episode or with the original storybook Tin Man. —Soap— 20:58, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
