Hi @Froaringus.
I have doubts about this etymology. The expected result of a Vulgar Latin *exfaciāre would be a Galician *esfaçar, not esfachar. No obvious etymology comes to mind, but perhaps esfachar is simply es- + facha + -ar, the second element being the noun meaning 'axe'. Nicodene (talk) 18:31, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, you're right, the etymology is less than satisfactory. Maybe its rather a semantic evolution "to chop " > "to smash". Much simpler, I like it! - Froaringus (talk) 17:24, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
