rfv-sense In mediaeval art, the representation of a band or scroll containing an inscription. - not even convinced this is a separate sense Notusbutthem (talk) 15:27, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've added several citations of labels in medieval art, either 2D art, or 3D sculpture/vases, which speak of "labels or scrolls", "a scroll or label", and, perhaps most clearly, "While word balloons had been present in Europe for some time, from the phylactery (inscribed scroll) seen in medieval art to the 'labels' or 'banners' of nineteenth-century English satirical illustrator George Cruikshank". It's possible this should be merged into some broader sense, though; I'm not sure. What does anyone else think? (I also added another missing sense.) - -sche (discuss) 01:09, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
