Welcome
[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 23:34, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
Please hold on!
[edit]@Geshiza thank you for making entries. However, I must ask you to temporarily wait before adding more entries! You didn't do anything wrong it's just that:
- We do not yet support Eastern Geshiza as a language code, this causes background technical issues that require a lot of background maintenance!! Please make a post in Requests for moves asking for a code to be created.
- We use templates, not just for ease, but for maintenance, categorization and searching (for terms). Once a code for Eastern Geshiza is created, I — or someone else — can teach you basics of how to use templates (we can practice with another language if you want to learn right now). But not using templates causes issues for other editors (and in extreme causes can lead to you being blocked)! So it's important that you learn some basic templates before you continue editing!
So again, I must ask that you please temporarily refrain from editing due to the issues listed above. But once these issues are resolved, you'll be able to get back to making as many entries as you want :). — Sameer (مشارکتها · بحث) 00:05, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for helping me out! I'm very sorry of the inconvenience cause by my editing. I will stop any editing now and make request for adding the language. Geshiza (talk) 04:38, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- And I noticed that there is a discussion going on about the inclusion of Eastern Geshiza in the Beer Parlour page. Can I participate in that discussion? Geshiza (talk) 05:06, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Geshiza No problem, hopefully we can get this all resolved soon so you can get back to editing. The discussion in Beer Parlor isn't about adding Eastern Gashiza it's more about what to do about the entries so far. You can join it though if you wish. Also, JSYK if you want users to be notified that you are messaging them type @ and their username, or else they'll never know you messaged them unless the check the page again! And feel free to tag me or leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about anything! — Sameer (مشارکتها · بحث) 05:16, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, thank you! Geshiza (talk) 05:21, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Sameerhameedy I formerly made a request about adding Geshiza in Information desk but provided limited information about this language. Should I make a separate request for adding this language and provide further information about it in Requests for moves? Or is it too redundant to do so? Geshiza (talk) 06:00, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, make another post at Requests for M/M/S. Eastern Geshiza is currently categorized a dialect of Horpa, you'll need to make a request for Eastern Geshiza to be split off and categorized as its own language. -— Sameer (مشارکتها · بحث) 06:43, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Geshiza Hi you still haven't made the request to make Eastern Geshiza a language. Do you need help writing the request? Let me know if you do. Your very close to being able to add Eastern Geshiza to Wiktionary!
- Since the entries you made still need you to make some adjustments to them, if you are unable to respond soon I'll ask for your entries to be temporary moved to your user space. If that happens your entries will still be there if you ever come back, all you would need to do is fix them for them to be re-added as entries. Whenever you do come back just ping me if you need help with anything.
Your entries have been moved
[edit]Hi, Geshiza.
Following up to the notice you were given above: Since you haven't fixed the entries you've made they had to be moved out of the mainspace. If you would like to fix the entries you've made and move them back to the mainspace, request a language code for Eastern Geshiza at wt:RFM. In the meantime the entries you made can be found here:
