• Since most vineyards in the German winelands, e.g. along Rhine and Moselle, are found on hillslopes, the commonest term for vineyards in general is Weinberg. The word Weingarten is used chiefly for ones that are specifically known to be situated on flatland. However, no such tendency exists for the regional variant Wingert.
