Aanleunwoning

[edit]

What is the English equivalent of the Dutch word aanleunwoning ? The description in English would be a home or other living unit for elderly people, adjacent to an old folks home, from which help may be sought in ermergencu cases. Thank to nay body for help. Gerard Verhaar.

I don’t think we have an equivalent in English, at least not in American English. Aanleunwoningen ("lean-against residences") are residences for the elderly that are attached to or built near a nursing home. They are appropriate for those who are still reasonably mobile and who have no serious health problems. Residents can take advantage the services of the nursing home (via a simple alarm button, possibly including meals), while enjoying more privacy and freedom. If a resident’s health begins to fail, his wait for placement in the home is accelerated. Perhaps: assisted-living residence? —Stephen 21:44, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Remunerated?

[edit]

What exactly remunerated means?

It means paid, compensated, recompensed, given money in exchange for something or some service. —Stephen 22:54, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not necessarily or always money/currency - just some form of payment-exchange; bartering for goods is mutually remunerative. The word is derived from Latin munus meaning "gift". Tam 19:27, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Latin translation

[edit]

What is the latin tanslation for "no regrets"?

nihil paeniteo (literally, I regret nothing); or nulla paenitentia (literally, no regret). —Stephen 16:47, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That is incorrect. The Latin translation for "I am sorry" is actually "me paenitet", which is a construction in which the action in question acts upon the one who is apologizing. For instance, you would say "Me paenitet te iravisse", lit. "Having made you angry makes me sorry" or in normal English "I'm sorry I made you angry." So this would be simply "nihil me paenitet."
Please do not post Latin translations that are incorrect if you are not familiar with the language, or at least leave a disclaimer to show that you may not be correct.

Could anyone translate these for me?
