Renaming this page and its subpages[edit]

If there are no objections, I shall rename Wiktionary:Requested articles and all its subpages, such as Wiktionary:Requested articles:English, by replacing "Requested articles" by "Article requests" in a bid to increase user-friendliness. Ncik 14:34, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request:[edit]

I would recommend making a Medical wikitionary project[edit]

Medical dictionary would be great to have as free open source dictionary. I think it is a valid project if anyone is up for the challenge. I also think there should be a way to only search specific dictionaries - like only search the medical wikitionary.

Currently the medical words we have will be in Category:Medicine and/or Category:Medical (I don't know why there's two). For now you can browse that category, but restricting searches to specific categories is not currently (afaik) possible - it is a good idea though. Thryduulf 20:02, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Belated note: Category:Medical has since been deleted. Mglovesfun (talk) 12:06, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the idea of a Medical Dictionary as a Capital idea and is most needed, particularly named under some sort of universal (English) user-friendly name, with perhaps, a nice-looking tiny icon/emoji. [— Michæl Irvine Hart❤️🦌 New Wilmington: May, AD 2023.]

New word: Remoted[edit]

Example: Brian said: "How did you get on her computer Casey?" Casey said: "I used a new piece of software and remoted to her computer."

What do you think? — This comment was unsigned.

The verb remote would have to be verifiable. Mglovesfun (talk) 12:09, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do we really want Wiktionary:Requested entries (German) AND Wiktionary:About German/Todo as separate places? (same for all other languages). Is there a big difference between people specifically requesting a word here or quasi requesting it by adding a link to a word we dont have yet on any other page? Mutante 11:22, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A "to do" page doesn't have to contain lists of red links, it could contain things to fix, such as pages using obsolete templates. Mglovesfun (talk) 11:55, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And all blue links should be removed from the "to do" pages, right? Mutante 11:58, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I want one about James Cook early explorer

gargamel et al[edit]

I would be interested in these, quote:

"...gargamel (Mur.). gargamello (Cs. also in the Morisco idiolect), gorgomil(o), gorogomilho, gorgomela and gragamilho (Pt.) gorgomil (Gl.) and gargamella (Ct. with the Val. var. gargamell) "throat": < And.Rom. *GARGAMEL, represented by And. gargamil in IQ 82/6/4..."

Requested Estonian Entries[edit]

I wish there's a section where a person can request Estonian language entries. - Lo Ximiendo 22:13, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Where to request???[edit]

The following was written on the Project page:

«A definition for an English word can be requested by going to Wiktionary:Requested entries (English) and putting it in the appropriate section.

A word in another language can be requested by going to Category:Requested entries by language or this automatically generated list and finding the right page (or replace "English" by the appropriate language name in the above link). If the page for the language does not exist yet, you can either create it yourself or put up a request for it at Wiktionary:Tea room.»

Well, I suppose that the second paragraph considers a language other that English. But what about the first one? Do I create a section or subsection on the face Project page proper (as it seems to ensue from the explanation) — or what?

(The word intended is Janusian.)

restore[edit]

Could someone restore co-grandmother-in-law? Condrad.Erwin deleted it as a protologism, but co-grandfather-in-law is evidently acceptable, which doesn't make sense to me. Or at least redirect to one of the lists of protologisms for English. (Though, granted, the only place I can find it on Google Books is in a Pitjantjatjara-to-English dictionary.) kwami 21:49, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Safe to say you posted this in the wrong place! Mglovesfun (talk) 16:07, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

what language?[edit]

I want to request "habibi", as I saw it used in a facebook chat. But I don't know what language it is.

Wiktionary:Requested entries (Unknown language, Latin script). Mglovesfun (talk) 09:53, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's a transcription of an Arabic word (see w:Habibi). We don't allow that sort of word unless it has entered the English language. But capitalised, as Habibi, it would be acceptable as a surname.SemperBlotto (talk) 10:15, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Baby lists it as a translation. Mglovesfun (talk) 10:17, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It also occurs in Hebrew, as חביבי (khabíbi). —RuakhTALK 15:57, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Languages without a request page[edit]

Is there a way to request entries for languages, that don't actually have a requested entries page? Could we create one, or how does it work? Supevan (talk) 21:17, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You could add it to Wiktionary:Wanted entries. If you have a lot of requests for a certain language, you could also create a new request page for that language. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 22:04, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just curious, do you think it would be a good idea to create one for Proto-Italic? Proto-Italic is used so extensively in the etymologies of a ton of languages, so I'm wondering if there's a reason it doesn't already exist. Supevan (talk) 14:58, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Probably not. We've had a problem with people adding mentions of Proto-Italic inappropriately in entries, without considering whether a term is actually reconstructed by a reliable source like de Vaan. In general, protolanguages are a tricky business, and we wouldn't want requests to give an air of legitimacy to pages that are not actually appropriate to create. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 17:50, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New Help Page[edit]

There needs to be a new help page, outlining the process to have invalid words removed. e.g. the word "pavillion" is NOT an alternate spelling of "pavilion"... this is the only site on the internet that lists it as such, though some others cite Wiktionary to justify listing it as an alternate spelling. In its etymology, pavillion is the Old French spelling. Using that logic, the Latin papilio, and Old High German fīfaltra should be listed as alternate spellings, also. Thanks! Was not able to add language[edit]

Hello, I needed to add Wiktionary:Requested entries (Tajik) to this page, but for some reason it is locked from editing, and I was not able to get this done. Please fix this situation. 173.88.246.138 03:39, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've added it. — Fytcha T | L | C 04:04, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Proto-Finnic[edit]

Could we add a request page for Proto-Finnic? There are redlinks in certain Finnish entries, would be nice to compile them so someone could go through them and create Proto-Finnic entries. Supevan (talk) 17:02, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to add Hopi to this list, but this page appears to be locked from editing. Why don't we get with the program and fix this situation (as well as the one mentioned just above)? 98.123.38.211 03:45, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
