[edit]abolisjonist + -isk, first part from abolition, either from Middle French abolition, or directly from Latin abolitiō (“abolishing, annulling, abolition”), from aboleō (“I retard, destroy, abolish”), from both ab- (“away, from, off”), from Latin ab (“from, away from, on, in”), from Proto-Italic *ab, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂epó (“off, away”) + and from *oleō (“I grow”), from Proto-Italic *oleō, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂oléye-, from *h₂el- (“to grow, nourish”). Last part from Old Norse -iskr, from Proto-Germanic *-iskaz, from Proto-Indo-European *-iskos.
