From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle English *afterboren, *efterboren, *æfterboren, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old English æfterboren (afterborn, posthumous, born after the father’s death), equivalent to after- +‎ born. Cognate with Scots efterborn.
