Algebraic notation


algebraic notation (usually uncountable, plural algebraic notations)

  1. (chess) A method for recording and describing the moves in a game of chess which employs a single uppercase letter for each piece and a letter-number coordinate for each square.
  2. (algebra) A method for recording domain and range of a function.
