From Middle English aliegiaunce, from Anglo-Norman alegaunce (loyalty of a liege-servant to one's lord), a modification of Anglo-Norman legaunce influenced by other words starting with the prefix -a-, from Anglo-Norman lege, liege (liege, servant), of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "gem" is not valid.
