[edit]From Proto-Albanian *ballā-, from Pre-Proto-Albanian *balnā-, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰólh₁neh₂- (“the white one”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰel- (“shining, white”).[1] Compare Latin flāgrāre (“to burn”), Old Church Slavonic бѣлъ (bělŭ, “white”), Lithuanian balnas (“pale”).
