Cognate with Norwegian beholde, Norwegian Nynorsk behalda, behalde, Danish beholde, Plautdietsch behoolen, German behalten, Luxembourgish behalen, Dutch behouden, Afrikaans behou, behoue, Limburgish behaaje, Saterland Frisian behoolde and English behold.
