Polish[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Proto-Slavic *bělъkъ. By surface analysis, biały + -ko. For the sense of albumen, compare English white (of the eye) and German weiße (Augenhaut). The sense of protein is a calque of Latin albūmen.
