Etymology[edit]
From Malay boleh, which is derived from an earlier form bulih. The derivation can be reconstructed from Proto-Malayic *mAɣ-ulih via these stages: *mAɣ-ulih > *mar-ulih > *bar-ulih > *bər-ulih > *brulih* > bulih > boleh, from which the verb was derived.
