Dutch[edit]

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (file)

Etymology[edit]

From boos (evil) +‎ wicht (living being)

Noun[edit]

booswicht m (plural booswichten, diminutive booswichtje n)

  1. wicked person, felon

Usage notes[edit]

In Dutch, compound words normally always take the gender of the latter component of the compound. In this case, the latter component is "wicht", a neuter word, which would render the compound neuter. However, due to the word being almost always used to refer to a male person, it takes the masculine gender.
