Compare Ivatan vuhawan, Ibanag vulawan, Central Bikol bulawan, Aklanon bueawan, Cebuano bulawan, Maranao bolawan, Tausug bulawan, and Kavalan berawan. The word is not found in early Tagalog dictionaries and may be a later borrowing from other Philippine languages.
