From a derivative of Latin carrus, possibly from a Vulgar Latin *carriāre or *carreāre, or from Occitan carri, car. Compare French charrier, charroyer, Spanish acarrear, Italian carreggiare, Neapolitan carreare, Sicilian carriari, cf. also Romanian căra.
