centisome ‎(plural centisomes)

  1. One hundredth part of the length of a chromosome

Usage notes[edit]

Used in gene mapping to identify the position of genes on the chromosome. Centisome is invariably followed by a number indicating the position of the gene.

The pathogenicity of Salmonella is located at centisome 63 of its chromosome.
