From centi- (“hundredth”) + -some (“(noun combining form) chromosome”).

- One hundredth part of the length of a chromosome
Usage notes[edit]
Used in gene mapping to identify the position of genes on the chromosome, and typically followed by a number indicating the position of the gene: "The pathogenicity of Salmonella is located at centisome 63 of its chromosome."
