Irish

Alternative forms

  • ag (colloquial; Galway)

Etymology

Back-formation from chuige, from Old Irish cuci, the third-person singular masculine of co (toward) (modern go).

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /xɪɟ/
  • Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language code; the value "Cois Fharraige" is not valid. See WT:LOL. IPA(key): /ɛɟ/ (being conflated with ag)

Preposition

chuig (plus dative, triggers no mutation)

  1. to; towards
  2. (with certain adjectives) at, for

Inflection

  • Note: The personal forms of chuig also serve as the personal forms of chun. In Galway, many personal forms of ag take over the role of the personal forms of chuig/chun.
