From cilinder +‎ -isch. Cilinder is derived from French cylindre, or directly from Latin cylindrus, latter of which is derived from Ancient Greek κύλινδρος (kúlindros, a cylinder, roller, roll)," from κυλίνδω (kulíndō, to roll). The suffix, -isch, is a loan from German -isch.
