Etymology[edit]

cy- +‎ ysgod, from Middle Welsh (y)sgawd, from Proto-Celtic *skātom, from Proto-Indo-European *skeh₃tom (compare English shadow). Cognate with Breton skeud, Cornish skeus, Irish scáth.[1]
