Etymology[edit]

Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *dar- (to go apart, scatter, spread), whence also Azerbaijani darmadağın (completely scattered, completely destroyed, tattered and ragged, razed to the ground). Cognate with Turkish dağılmak, see more there.
