Turkish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Old Anatolian Turkish tağıl- (“to be scattered, to spread”), from Old Turkic tarıl-(to be scattered), passive form of Old Turkic tar-(to scatter, spread), from Proto-Turkic *dar-(to go apart, scatter, spread), possibly from Proto-Altaic *tā̀ro(to stretch, spread)[1]. The reason of -/r/- to -/ğ/- assimilation is unknown. Compare darmadağın(something in complete disarray), see also dağıtmak.
