Turkish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish طاغتمق (dağıtmak). Apparently causative form of Proto-Turkic *dar- (to go apart, scatter, spread), however it displaced the original verb. The reason of -/r/- to -/ğ/- assimilation is unknown, see more at dağılmak.
