Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish دیز چوكمك (diz çökmek, to kneel down),[1] from دیز (diz, knee) and چوكمك (çökmek, to collapse, to kneel or crouch down), equivalent to diz +‎ çökmek. Cognates with Azerbaijani diz çökmək, Uzbek tiz choʻkmoq.
