Etymology[edit]

From djeg +‎ qerre, literally month in which wagons burn, of unknown meaning. Note archaic Serbian and Macedonian коложег (koložeg), also a compound of коло (kolo, wheel) + жег (žeg, warmth), which may point to an old regional isogloss.
