Etymology
From Middle English dormitory , dormytory , dormytorye , borrowed from Latin dormitorium ( “ a sleeping-room ” ) , neuter of dormitorius ( “ belonging to sleep ” ) , dormitor ( “ a sleeper ” ) , from dormire ( “ to sleep ” ) . Doublet of dorter .
