From envolt, past participle of Old Catalan envoldre (corresponding to Latin involutus, perfect passive participle of involvō, involvere), or possibly from a Vulgar Latin *involtāre, for Latin involutāre, frequentative of involvere. Compare Occitan envoltar, Italian involtare.
