Basque

Verb

esan

  1. to say, tell

Usage notes

Esan's synthetic conjugation is entirely unrelated etymologically to the non-finite forms, instead it uses a stem -io- to conjugate synthetically. However, some of the synthetic forms are archaic, so more often you will see periphrastic forms being used instead.

  • For example,
Zer diozu? = Zer esaten duzu? = What do you say?
Zer ziotsun? = Zer esan zizun? = What did he tell you?
