From Old Irish ·aicci (sees), prototonic form of ad·cí, from Proto-Celtic *ad-kʷiseti, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷeys- (observe). The initial f- of the modern form comes from the misinterpretation of aic- as lenited fhaic-.
