Etymology[edit]

heri (army) +‎ zogo (leader). From Proto-Germanic *harjatugô (army leader), which contains Proto-Germanic *harjaz (army) and a derivation of Proto-Germanic *teuhaną.[1] Cognate to Old English heretoga, Old Norse hertogi.
