From Ancient Greek ΙΧΘΥΣ (IKhThUS, fish), which served as an acronym for Ἰησοῦς (Iēsoûs, Jesus) Χριστός (Khristós, Christ) θεοῦ (theoû, of God) υἱός (huiós, son) σωτήρ (sōtḗr, saviour).
