From Vulgar Latin *incalciāre, *incalceāre, from Latin calx (“heel”). Compare Catalan and Portuguese encalçar, Spanish encalzar, Occitan encauçar.

- (intransitive) but takes avere as auxiliary To be imminent, to be pressing, to urge.
