Etymology[edit]

Popularized by Frances McDormand's acceptance speech at the 90th Academy Awards. The concept was created by lawyer Kalpana Kotagal.

inclusion rider (plural inclusion riders)

  1. A rider in a contract stipulating the inclusion of marginalized peoples in a work to maintain a certain level of diversity.

      The company is also developing a reboot of "The Thomas Crown Affair," and Mr. Jordan will make his directorial debut with an adaptation of "The Stars Beneath Our Feet." It was not immediately known whether the inclusion rider would apply to those projects and others underway.
