jaloste

  1. Any material, but especially a foodstuff, obtained by refining or processing a raw material (sense "material in its unprocessed, natural state"). Often used in compound terms and translated into English as "raw material + product" or "processed + raw material".
    lihajaloste = processed meat, meat product
    marjajaloste = processed berries
  2. (agriculture) An improved cultivar or variety of a plant obtained by various selective breeding, cross-breeding and genetic techniques.
