japygid (plural japygids)

  1. (zoology) Any hexapod of the family Japygidae or superfamily Japygoidea.
    • 1970, John Anthony Wallwork, Ecology of soil animals, page 244:
      The japygids could not be established with certainty as carnivores, and efficiencies were calculated (a) with these animals ignored, (b) with them considered as carnivores, and (c) with them considered as 'herbivores'.
