letter carrier (plural letter carriers)

  1. An employee of the post office who delivers mail (post) to, and collects it from, a residence or business, or from public mailboxes.

Usage notes

The phrase "letter carrier" came to be used as a gender-neutral substitute for "mailman" soon after women began performing the job.
