From Proto-Albanian *leitsa, from Proto-Indo-European *ley- (to pour). Cognate to Lithuanian líeti (pour), Ancient Greek ἄλεισον (áleison, wine container), Latin litus (beach, seaside, seashore), Old Church Slavonic лити (liti, to pour) and Old Norse līð (beer).
