From Proto-Vietic *ɓɛːwʔ, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ɓiəwʔ (askew); cognate with Muong bẻo, Pacoh tarbeau (deformed, ill-shaped). Possibly related to vẹo. Compare Zhuang mbeuj.
