From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *muːŋ ~ r/s-muːk. Cognate with Burmese မိုး (mui:, sky, rain(n.)) (From Old Burmese မိုဝ် (muiw)), Tibetan རྨུ་བ (rmu ba, fog), Old Chinese (*moɡs, fog), Tangut 𗹦 (*mə¹, sky, heaven), Horpa mqɑ (sky), Nuosu (mu, sky (in compounds)). Compare with Lhao Vo mug: , Zaiwa mau, Hpon tămù and Longchuan Achang mau³¹.
