Mensagem (message) +‎ -eiro (-eer) (compare Galician mensaxeiro, Spanish mensajero), from Old French message (message), from Late Latin missāticum, from Latin missum, the supine of mittō (I send), from Proto-Indo-European *meyth₂-, *mith₂- (to exchange, remove).
