English

Etymology

Attributed to Carl D. Anderson.

Noun

negatron (plural negatrons)

  1. (physics, obsolete) The electron.

Usage notes

  • The term was coined by Carl D. Anderson, who had discovered the positron. He suggested it be used for the negatively charged particle only, with electron being used for either the negatron or positron. (See w:Electron.)
